Orthen Cemetery

An unexpected discovery: peace, nature, and stories in one walk

Just outside the center of ‘s-Hertogenbosch lies Orthen Cemetery: a green, serene spot with a park-like atmosphere. Since 1858, this has been an oasis of calm in the busy city. Monumental trees, winding paths, and intimate green ‘rooms’ make this cemetery a special place to pause for a moment.

During a guided tour with a guide from Kring Vrienden van ‘s-Hertogenbosch, you will discover the cultural-historical value of the funerary monuments and hear stories about famous residents of Den Bosch buried here. You will also visit the Neo-Gothic chapel, built in memory of Bishop Zwijsen. Several bishops and priests are interred in the crypt beneath the chapel.

Theelicht

After the walk, you can visit Het Theelicht, the atmospheric teahouse on the grounds. Formerly a mortuary, it is now a place for a cup of coffee, tea, or a soft drink. A beautiful conclusion to a special walk through this peaceful, monumental cemetery.
