Hertogstad Boat Tour

Sailing inside and outside the city walls

’s-Hertogenbosch is a fortified city full of water. Inside the walls, the Binnendieze winds its way beneath the houses, while outside the walls, the Dommel flows past the old fortifications. During the Hertogstad Boat Route, you experience both sides of the city in one special trip.

From Dommel to Binnendieze

You sail along the sturdy city walls and through the old inner harbor, where ships from all corners of the world used to unload their cargo. Afterwards, you’ll also discover the other side of ’s-Hertogenbosch: the narrow waterways of the Binnendieze, hidden under streets, bridges, and centuries-old buildings.

In the Inner Harbor, you’ll transfer to a different boat so you can experience both the open water outside the fortress and the enclosed world beneath the city. Along the way, a skipper from Kring Vrienden van ’s-Hertogenbosch tells stories about trade, fortifications, and life on and around the water.

The boat tour consists of two parts. Sometimes you start on the Dommel, sometimes on the Binnendieze, but you always complete the full route. A tour that shows why ’s-Hertogenbosch has been a true water city for centuries.
