‘s-Hertogenbosch has a new museum! A fortress and water museum. And not just any museum, but a real experience PACKED WITH STORIES ‘From 1629 to now and back again’. Kring Vrienden van ‘s-Hertogenbosch warmly invites you to visit this new showpiece. We could tell you all about it, but the exhibition is so impressive that you really have to experience it for yourself.

The Kruithuis

The Kruithuis in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is the only remaining gunpowder magazine from the Eighty Years’ War in the Netherlands. It’s a unique place to tell the story of the Eighty Years’ War in the Southern Netherlands, and the leading role water plays in and around the Den Bosch fortress. Later, Joost van den Vondel aptly named it the ‘Marsh Dragon’. History is literally at your feet here…

Grand Café 1629

After your museum visit, coffee/tea with ‘Kruitkoek’ (spiced cake) awaits you in Grand Café 1629. It’s a lovely spot to let the history and different perspectives sink in. Or enjoy a delicious sandwich or salad with a drink of your choice.
